@DESKTOP-D74HAKD, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're experiencing an issue where adjusting the brightness on your HP Notebook - 15-da0400tu has no visible effect on the display. Let's work through this together.

Update Display Drivers

Outdated or incorrect display drivers can cause brightness control issues.

  1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Display adapters.
  3. Right-click your display adapter (e.g., Intel HD Graphics) and select Update driver.
  4. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

Alternatively, you can download the latest graphics driver directly from the HP Software and Driver Downloads page.

Enable Generic PnP Monitor

Sometimes the monitor driver gets disabled.

  1. In Device Manager, expand Monitors.
  2. If Generic PnP Monitor is disabled (a down arrow icon), right-click and select Enable device.

Check Power Settings

Ensure adaptive brightness is not interfering.

  1. Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
  2. Click Change plan settings next to your selected plan.
  3. Click Change advanced power settings.
  4. Expand Display > Enable adaptive brightness.
  5. Turn it Off for both On battery and Plugged in.

Run HP Support Assistant

HP Support Assistant can automatically detect and fix many issues.

BIOS Update (if needed)

Sometimes a BIOS update can resolve hardware-level brightness issues.

  • Visit the HP support page.
  • Enter your product name: HP Notebook - 15-da0400tu.
  • Download and install the latest BIOS update (if available).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
