Hi @Joshua136
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
This sounds frustrating, especially since the camera was working fine before suddenly disappearing. Here are some steps to troubleshoot:
1. Check If the Camera Is Disabled
- Press Win + X → Select Device Manager
- Expand Imaging Devices or Cameras
- If your camera is listed, right-click → Enable device (if available)
2. Restart the Windows Camera Service
- Press Win + R → Type services.msc → Press Enter
- Scroll down and find Windows Camera Frame Server
- Right-click → Restart
3. Reinstall or Update the Camera Driver
- Open Device Manager
- Locate your camera under Imaging Devices or Cameras
- Right-click → Uninstall device → Restart your laptop
- Windows should auto-install the driver, but you can also check HP's support page for an updated version
4. Allow Apps to Access the Camera
- Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera
- Ensure Camera access is turned on and apps like Discord have permission
5. Run the Windows Troubleshooter
- Open Settings → Update & Security → Troubleshoot → Additional Troubleshooters
- Select Camera and let Windows scan for issues
6. Check for Physical Issues
- If your laptop has a privacy shutter or camera button (F8 on some HP models), make sure it’s not blocking access
- If the camera LED turns on but no video appears, it could be a loose internal connection
7. Try an External Camera
- If none of these steps work, plug in a USB webcam to see if Windows detects it—if it does, the issue might be hardware-related
Try these out and let me know which one gets your camera back up and running!
