@Phyl13 -- what happened?

Kidnapped by an alien invader?  🙂

Some new computers do NOT come with a CD/DVD/BluRay device as "standard" equipment -- you have to "special-order" your computer to include this component.

@Phyl13 -- start with the simple stuff:

  1. did somebody in your household physically remove the device (to use within their own computer)?
  2. with the computer running, press the open/close button. If the tray does not open, then the device is not getting any electrical power. Check that the power-connector on the back of the DVD is securely fastened.
  3. Open the tray. Place a CD/DVD disk into the tray, noting the orientation of the labeling. Close the tray. Do you hear the drive spinning the disk?
  4. Wait a minute, and then open the tray. Is the labeling still oriented exactly as it was when you inserted the disk?  If so, the motor that spins the disk is not working, and the device needs to be replaced.
