Hi @trouble1233,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the touchpad drag-and-drop feature is not working on your HP Laptop PC 14, the issue could be related to driver settings, touchpad gestures, or software conflicts. Follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.
Check Touchpad Settings
- Open Settings > Devices > Touchpad (or Mouse settings depending on your Windows version).
- Look for options like "Drag and Drop" or "Tap and Drag" and ensure they are enabled.
- If the settings don't include drag-and-drop, check for a Touchpad Driver Control Panel (such as Synaptics or Precision Touchpad).
Adjust Tap and Drag Settings
- Open the Control Panel > Mouse.
- Under the Device Settings tab or your touchpad's configuration tool:
- Locate Tapping or Gestures.
- Enable "Tap to Drag" or similar options.
Update or Reinstall Touchpad Drivers
- Press Win + X > Device Manager.
- Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
- Right-click your touchpad driver (e.g., "Synaptics TouchPad" or "HID-compliant touchpad") and select Update driver.
- If updating doesn't help:
- Right-click and choose Uninstall device. Restart your laptop to reinstall the driver automatically.
- Visit the HP Support website to download and install the latest touchpad drivers.
Disable External Mouse or Conflicting Software
- If you use an external mouse, disconnect it and check the touchpad functionality.
- Disable third-party mouse utilities or software that might interfere with touchpad gestures.

Test in Safe Mode
- Boot into Safe Mode:
- Press Win + R, type msconfig, and hit Enter.
- Under the Boot tab, select Safe boot and click OK.
- Test if drag-and-drop works. If it does, a third-party program might be causing the issue. Identify and disable the conflicting program.
Perform a System Restore
- If drag-and-drop worked previously, restore your system to a date when it was functional:
- Open Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore.
- Follow the prompts to choose a restore point.
Reset Windows Gestures
- If you're using Windows Precision Touchpad gestures, reset them to default:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
- Scroll to gestures and reset them.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
