I just experienced the same problem w/ the AMD Radeon HD 6850 card in my HPE-H8 1050 and ( product # QN563AA#ABA ).  Trying to find another 6850 graphics card like the one in my PC is becoming a challenge.  I see Big_Dave the HP Expert recommened NVIDIA GTX 660, 660 TI, or 670. Does anyone know if these cards will work? Or any other?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 TIA  Warren

Hi @WarrenI,

Thanks for posting in the HP community.:) A very good day to you :)!  I read the post about graphics card upgrades for your computer. I will be delighted to assist you here. 🙂

You’ve done an excellent job on diagnosing the issue from your end. Kudos to you on that score. 🙂 We greatly value your relationship with HP.

You are a valued HP customer and we appreciate you greatly for doing business with HP. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better, I would require more information regarding this:

Have you checked the product specifications of the computer and the cards that you want to replace?

Going by the product specifications of the computer’s motherboard and the power supply, on paper, it looks compatible.

However, there are a few factors that need to be kept in mind.

  • Form Factor of the GPU to be housed in the Tower.
  • The type of Power Supply required.
  • The connectors of the power supply
  • The PCIE slot.
  • RAM requirement.
  • You could actually check all the right boxes relating to these for the Form Factor, power supply, PCIE slot and required RAM. Your computer meets all the requirements.
  • However, please check the power supply connector type should match the power connector of the NVIDIA GTX 660, 660 TI, or 670.graphic cards. That is paramount. If it does then the GPU should work with your computer.
  • Besides, as the expert has suggested that it should work and is compatible, then it should work without hassles. These experts are exceptional and highly specialized. They pretty much know what they are talking about.

If you go for this card, you will need to upgrade both the power supply and the graphics card.

Link for GeForce GTX 670 specs: http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-670/specifications

This requires a 500 W power supply to power the card and your computer has a 460 W power supply.

So finally, both GTX 660 and GTX 660 TI should be compatible with the computer as it does not require replacing the power supply of the unit.

  • Please note that HP does not recommend upgrading either the operating system or the computer’s hardware as the components that were initially installed with the unit are certified by
  • HP for optimal performance. However, as you are very technically inclined, I would still request you to consult a local technician like Best Buy or Staples before proceeding to upgrade the unit.
  • So please contact a local Best Buy or staples technician and perform the upgrade so that there are no compatibility issues with the GPU upgrade for your computer and everything works smoothly.

Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. I'm always there to assist you. Please reach out anytime. 🙂

THIS PAGE lists the graphics cards that are compatable with the motherboard.  Look under the AMD or NVIDIA headings.
