When your computer is connected to a monitor with an HDMI cable but the screen display or sound does not work correctly, follow these steps to troubleshoot:
1. Reset the HDMI Connection
- Disconnect the HDMI cable from both the computer and the monitor.
- Compare the HDMI connector to the HDMI port to ensure they match.
- Reconnect the HDMI cable to both the computer and the monitor.
- Set the input source on the monitor to match the port the HDMI cable is connected to.
2. Configure Sound Settings
- On your computer, go to the Sound Settings:
- Select Start, type "Sound Settings", and select it from the results.
- Open the Sound Control Panel:
- Select the connected monitor and click Set Default.
- Click Properties, select the Levels tab, and set the monitor volume to at least 75, then click OK.
3. Use Windows Troubleshooter
- Open the Windows Audio Troubleshooter:
- Select Start, type "Audio Troubleshooter", and select Find and fix problems with playing sound from the results.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to diagnose and fix the issue.
4. Reset the Computer
- Shut down the computer and disconnect any cables, including the power cable.
- If using a laptop, remove the battery if possible.
- Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the power adapter and power on the computer.
