Hello. I have a new pc (HP ENVY Desktop TE02-1002na with nvidia geforce rtx 3050 graphics card, windows 11, and a HP u32 hdr monitor which I bought separately. I'm pleased with them. But it seems to me the display has changed in last few days: it has a black border/margin along the inner edge of the top and left and right sides of the monitor where it didn't before. Both the display settings and the graphics card control panel say the resolution is 3840 x 2160 - which is what it ought to show - but it doesn't match the screen to the outer edges.
I've found others online and on youtube with similar issues for various monitors. They have lots of fixes which have not worked for me, like updating drivers etc. Any idea what has changed? I was sure it wasn't like this before xmas. Or - was it always like that and I've simply suddenly noticed and fixated on it? I've tried adjusting display settings in windows and nvidia panel, reinstalling graphics driver, uninstalling some programs I had installed and system restore - all no difference.
I'm not that technically minded but any help or advice much appreciated.

Hi @mb_7777,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It's possible that the issue with the black border/margin on your monitor is related to the overscan or scaling settings. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and fix the problem.
Check Overscan/Underscan settings:
- Right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings."
- Scroll down and click on "Advanced display settings."
- Look for an option like "Overscan" or "Underscan." If available, adjust it until the display fills the entire screen.
Adjust NVIDIA Control Panel settings:
- Right-click on the desktop and select "NVIDIA Control Panel."
- Navigate to "Adjust desktop size and position" under the "Display" category.
- Ensure that the scaling mode is set to "Full-screen" or "No scaling." You can experiment with different scaling options to see if any resolve the issue.
Monitor settings:
- Check if your monitor has any specific settings related to scaling or overscan. Refer to your monitor's manual for instructions on adjusting these settings.
Update Graphics Drivers:
- Ensure that your graphics drivers are up to date. Visit the official NVIDIA website and download the latest drivers for your RTX 3050.
Windows Updates:
- Make sure your Windows 11 operating system is fully updated. Sometimes, Windows updates include fixes for display-related issues.
Check HDMI/DisplayPort cable:
- Ensure that the cable connecting your PC to the monitor is securely plugged in. You may also try using a different cable to rule out any cable-related issues.
Reset Monitor Settings:
- If all else fails, you can try resetting your monitor settings to the factory defaults. Refer to your monitor's manual for instructions on how to do this.
If the issue persists after trying these steps, it's also worth considering if any recent software updates or changes to your system might have triggered the problem. You may want to review recent updates or installations and consider rolling back changes if needed.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi, thanks. I think it may be the maximum displayable area on the monitor, as I have tried all these. In many ways, it seems a bit silly to produce and advertise a monitor as having such a narrow bezel, then not utilise that space up to the bezel. The overscan alteration on monitor did make a difference, but only up to the point which was the margin's viewable edge. in order to make the toolbar, which had fallen off screen viewable required distorting the image on the graphics card. I appreciate the help.
