Hi:

Did you first uninstall the Intel graphics adapter and driver in the device manager?

If not, remove the AMD graphics card and do this...

Go to the device manager, click to expand the Display adapters device manager category.

Right click on the graphics adapter listed there and select Uninstall.  Also check the Uninstall driver box.

Shut down, unplug the PC and install your AMD Radeon HD 4550.

after following procedures screen still goes black after windows tries to start. i removed ati card and reconnected vga to motherboard and no screen at all even trying safe mode. reinstalled ati and it will only display in safe mode. thank you for your help.

Unfortunately, I don't know why that is happening.

Even without a graphics driver, Windows should run in normal mode with a generic standard VGA adapter.

You may want to consider reinstalling Windows 7, to rule out a deeper software/hardware issue.

I would install W7 with the AMD radeon graphics card installed, so that there are no driver conflicts.
