I use a Dell monitor connected to my HP laptop with an HDMI cable. I;ve used this for years and never h ad any issue except for today. Now the monitor says there is no HDMI signal. I have checked t=and reconnected the cable andpowered off the monitor and laptop, and have run the HP Diagnostics app ("fast test" used -- everything passed except that there is failure on the display). Also, at the same time, my USB hub stopped working. This hub is used to connect two external drives and an external keyboard, and again have been using this for years with no issue. Now today, I cannot get the drives or keyboard to be recognized when connected thru the hub. If I connect directly to a USB port, that seems to be ok.

@Anne42717, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Since both the HDMI port and USB hub stopped working at the same time, it's likely a hardware-level issue with the internal I/O controller, a power delivery issue, or driver/firmware corruption.
Fully Power Cycle Everything
- Shut down the laptop.
- Unplug the HDMI cable and the USB hub.
- Unplug the laptop charger and remove any external devices.
- Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to discharge static.
- Plug only the charger and HDMI cable back in and start up.
Check the Display Output Mode
Your laptop may be set to "PC screen only."
- Press Win + P and use arrow keys to cycle to "Duplicate" or "Second screen only", then press Enter.
- Check if the monitor comes back on.
Reinstall Display and USB Drivers
Go to Device Manager:
- Expand Display adapters → Right-click Intel UHD → Uninstall device (check "Delete driver software" if available), then restart.
- Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers → Uninstall anything that mentions Hub or Root Hub.
- Restart. Windows will reinstall them automatically.
BIOS/UEFI Reset
Sometimes hardware ports stop working due to a BIOS glitch.
- Restart your laptop, press F10 repeatedly to enter BIOS.
- Use the arrow keys to find "Restore Defaults" (sometimes under Exit or Main tab).
- Save and exit.
Update BIOS & Chipset Drivers
Go to HP support page for your model and download:
- Latest BIOS
- Intel Chipset Driver
- Intel Graphics Driver
Install all and restart.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Followed your instructions and now the external display is working as expected, yay and thank you!!
When I got to the part about the BIOS/UEFI reset, the only place where I saw a reset was on the Security page so I selected that, but is there another reset choice I should have used instead?
Then I tried to do the Latest BIOS Intel Chipset Driver but when I go to the HP support page and enter my model ID (HP laptop-17-by3613dx), the page asks me for my operating system and the only choice given is Windows 10 and I have Windows 11. I could not locate where to get to this driver for my Windows 11 system. Can you please advise on how I get to that driver?

After I posted my last reply, I went back to the BIOS and went to the Exit page where I saw "Load Setup Defaults". I selected that, then selected the option to save changes and exit. Then I connected the hub (had two USD drives on it) and it is still not visible.

@Anne42717, Thank you for your response.
Great to hear your external monitor is working again—huge win! 🎉 Now let’s help you get that USB hub back in action and clarify the BIOS + driver questions.
BIOS Reset – You Did It Right
You're absolutely right to go back and choose:
- Exit → Load Setup Defaults → Save and Exit
That’s the correct way to reset BIOS to factory defaults. The earlier reset under Security may have been for TPM or passwords, which doesn’t affect hardware detection.
USB Hub Still Not Working? Try This
Since the hub is still invisible but direct USB connections work, it’s likely:
- A power issue with the hub.
- A driver issue related to USB controllers.
- A hub hardware failure.
Try These Steps:
A. Test the Hub on Another PC
- If it doesn't work elsewhere, the hub itself is likely faulty.
B. Try the Hub Alone
- Plug the hub in without any drives connected. Then plug in just one drive or keyboard at a time.
- USB ports on laptops often can't provide enough power if two drives are connected simultaneously without external power.
C. Try a Different Port
- Try using a different USB port (especially if your laptop has both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0).
D. Remove Hidden Drivers (Ghost Devices)
Do this to clear old/hidden USB entries:
- Open Device Manager
- Click View > Show hidden devices
- Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers
- Right-click and uninstall anything that’s grayed out or says "Unknown device" or "Hub."
- Restart the laptop and test the hub again.

The probelm seems to be a fault hub. I substituted another powered hub and now I can get to my drives and use the external keyboard via this hub. Also updated the BIOS using the HP Support Assistant as outlined in your post. Thank you so much for all the help and getting me back to where I needed to be. I really appreciate your patience and the detailed steps you provided to help me work on the solution.

@Anne42717, You're most welcome! I'm really glad to hear everything's back up and running—external monitor, USB devices, BIOS update—all sorted. 🙌
You did a great job working through the steps and verifying each component. Spotting the faulty hub was key, and switching to a powered one was exactly the right move. If you ever run into another hiccup—I’ll be here to help.
Thanks again for your confirmation, and we wish you an amazing day ahead!
Regards,
