I have a HP Pavilion p6243w running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit with a HP 2009m Monitor. . Just recently it started going crazy. I woke it up the other day and there were static horizontal and diaginal lines on my monitor in a weird pattern. Tried the ctrl, alt, dlt that didn't do a thing. I had to turn pc off manually , waited a bit then turned it back on, this time on the blue boot up windows welcome screen, it done it again , with Blue Static lines. etc. done this several times, I have un-connected everything except the keyboard, mouse, monitor, still does the same thing, there is no certain time limit to when this happens , it's been right at reboot , up to 20 - 30 minutes or more, but it Always does it. I have scanned for viruses (Nothing), Re-booted in safe mode to poke around (Nothing), Done a system recovery [Twice] (nothing) dint help at all, still doin the same Ol' thing. Let me post a few pix of my monitor, it's hard to explain in words what it looks like. . ( reminder, the picture is how it stays, it does not move , flicker, shift around, just there. I dont know if it's a failing Graphic Card, or something corrupted within my machine, I do know that it is not the monitor itself. . . Please HELP ME

Hi @OlePossum,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are facing multiple issues with your PC.

Please follow the steps below to perform an extensive system test to confirm if the hardware is working fine.

1) Shut down the computer.

2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.

3) Press F2 once.

4) Go to the system test > extensive test

If the hardware is working fine. Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the BIOS and let me know if that resolves the issue.

Make sure you keep only the charger plugged in while updating the BIOS for your PC.

Click on the + sign next to BIOS and then download the file.

Open the file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

Select the Start button > All programs > Windows Update. In the left pane, select Check for updates. If any important updates are found, select the link to view available updates. install all the updates on the list.

Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution. Click the “Kudos/Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping!

Irwin6,  Sorry for the delay in my response, I tried the steps you posted for me to try, Powering off the PC then turning it back on, repeatedly pressing the Esc button, it doesn't do what the instructions said it would do, instead it brought up a Boot Menu with two selections, HDD Group and CD-ROM Group, you have to select one or the other. I'll post a screen shot of the display.  The PC is acting differently now, I can turn it on now, let it boot-up, and it will stay booted up and running for hours ( I set the PC & Monitor to never sleep ), until I start useing applications then PC will lock up (freeze) monitor has the weird lines on it, with no Hard Drive activity at all (HDD Activity Indicator). Then I will hold down the power button until the Power on indicator goes Off, then I will Immediately push it again , then I will select Start Normally, let windows boot-up completely, then I'll restart the PC , let Windows reboot normally from shut-down, PC and Monitor has been up and running fine for hours at a time (until I start doing somethig) . The PC did let me run a Diagnostic Test on it ( Hardware Diagnostic Tools ) that program came installed on my PC,  that took over an hour to run, and it Passed everthing , which was suprizing to me, I was hoping it would show something was wrong, so I can fix it, or Try to fix it. At lest I know it isn't the Graphiics Card or Monitor. I'm going to take PC completely apart, un-plug everything from the motherboard, all of the drives data and power cables and reconnect them all to see if that will do anything, doubtful, but worth a try. . . Gonna upload the pic now, have a good day 🙂thumbnail.jpg

I have a question about recovering the operating system ( I have a 3 disc Recovery Set that I burned, when I got the machine ) , What If my machine crashes while that is in progess ?  Wouldn't that be a disaster ?

I have another thing I've noticed about the PC today, I opened a few Word Documets that I have many of on that PC, with no crashing, but when I went to open a program like Control Panel, it crashed when I hit the second left click on the icon. Oh, I was going to do another Diagnostic Scan on it today, and it crashed right at the start of the process. . Machine starting to get on my nerves. Let me know something about the Recovery thingy, I'm really concerned about pc crashing in the process. .

HAvE a GrEaT dAy. . . . . .
