Operating System: macOS 10.13 High Sierra

I've got a mac book air which I've tried connecting to the my HP E273M via the USB cable - this hasn't worked at all - not input recognised by the monitor.  I've now connected with a HDMI cable witha. monitor port adapter for my mac.  This connects.  the screen works and the speakers on the monitor are picking up the audio from the the mac.  However the camera is not being picked up - how can i fix this ?
