Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

hi, i have read many helpful answers to this issue of screen brightness experienced by many after the upgrade to windows 10  but just not sure if the solution would also solve the problem i am experiencing.basically the screen has been way too glaring and when i move the brightness bar, nothing changes whether it is at 0 or 100% and it is the same brightness that is hurting my eyes.  I have reached out to microsoft but was asked to approach HP for help. would greatly appreciate any help in resolving this. i have tried reinstal driver but no luck and it stated that the driver is up to date etc. many thanks

Hi, @ks22ks :

Your PC is not supported by HP for W10, and there are no W10 drivers for the graphics adapter your PC has.

See if this works...

Download and save, but do not run the W8 graphics driver from your PC's support and driver page.

This package provides the driver for the AMD/ATI Radeon HD graphics solutions in supported models that are running a supported operating system.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59001-59500/sp59361.exe

Then download and install this free file utility.  The 2nd link at the top of the page is for 64 bit.

http://www.7-zip.org/

After you install 7-Zip, right click on the graphics driver file you saved.

Select 7-Zip from the list of items on the menu.

Have 7-Zip Extract to:  and let it extract the driver file into its folder name (sp59361).

Once that is done, go to the device manager, click to expand the Display Adapters device manager category.

Click on the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.  Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder 7-Zip created.

Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked, and see if the driver installs that way.

Then restart the PC.

hi i am coming back to this issue again, since the last effort, i gained back the ability to control brightness by moving the cursor on the brightness bar. and a lower resolution was also automatically set for my pc which is not a problem for me.

yesteday i had an update notification i think some AMD driver thingy, and i clicked update, and now i have lost the ability to control the brightness again!  and the screen is also just a little bit brighter for my liking! alittle glaring again i mean .fortunately,i was able to set the night light on so this helps a little in reducing the irritation.

my questionnow  is should i redo what i did before, more or less folllowing your instructions and going forward just ignore any update notification?

thanking you in anticipation.

Hi:

Yes, I recommend you do that.

You can also try to run the system restore utility and select a restore point to a time before you installed the update.

If that works, that would be the easiest way to fix it.

Then I would not install any graphics updates in the future.

thanks
