Don't know of any recent changes, unless hit something on error. Went to help section under control panel, adjust screen resolution of no help.
Scrren has a stretched image making things wider and lettering fatter. It does show that I recently got a Microsoft Edge??

I have the same problem. My system locked up and I had to hard reboot to get out of it. When the system came back to me the monitor has stretched the images so that circles are ellipses. Text is more difficult to read too. I have an HP Pavilion and HP 2009m monitor.

Hi @jfrater,
Thanks for visiting the HP community. A very good day to you! I read the post regarding issues with the computer screen having text and images enlarged. I will be delighted to assist you here.
You’ve done an excellent job of diagnosing the issue from your end. Kudos to you on that score. 🙂 . I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you.
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:
- Did you try to reinstall the display drivers and check?
- Please provide the complete model# and the operating system of the computer to assist you better.
- Did you try with a different screen or monitor and check if it works correctly?
- Did you try connecting this monitor to a different computer to isolate the issue between the monitor and the computer?
For now, try these steps:
- Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand display adapters>then select the display drivers that are listed and right-click on it and uninstall the drivers.
- Check the box that states delete the software for this device.
- Then restart the computer and update the bios chipset and graphics drivers from this link: http://hp.care/2syreDe and select the country and type the product# of the computer. Then select the operating system and follow the on-screen instructions.
Now check if the issue gets resolved.
If it continues then follow the relevant steps from this link: http://hp.care/2xCk8Nr to change the display resolution and follow the option “Changing the display orientation, text size, and screen resolution in Windows 10”
This should do the trick for you if the computer or monitor don't have any hardware issues.
Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, please.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Hi @Blondie7,
Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I understand you are having issues with the display quality. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Could you provide me with the exact model of the PC? Use this link to find it: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03754824 (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).
Have you tried to update the display drivers?
Have you tried to connect an external monitor and check if it works correctly?
In the meantime, let's try these steps here:
Perform a Hard reset on the PC:
Many startup errors and other problems can be resolved by decreasing the amount of power stored in hardware components. Decreasing stored power is sometimes referred to as a "Hard Reset". Use the following steps to perform a hard reset on a computer:
-
If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown.
If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off.
-
With the power off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer.
-
With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out.
-
Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power.
For now, try these steps:
- Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand display adapters>then select the display drivers that are listed and right-click on it and uninstall the drivers.
- Check the box that states delete the software for this device.
- Then restart the computer and update the bios chipset and graphics drivers from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers and select the country and type the product# of the computer. Then select the operating system and follow the on-screen instructions.
Now check if the issue gets resolved.
If it continues then follow the relevant steps from this link: HP Products - Changing Display Settings, Background Image, Icons, and Screen Saver (Windows 10, 7) to change the display resolution and follow the option “Changing the display orientation, text size, and screen resolution in Windows 10” This should do the trick for you if the computer or monitor don't have any hardware issues.
Let me know if those steps worked for you.
If they did, that’s awesome!
Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
That’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers!
Good Luck.
