One day, my touchpad just stopped working, so I switched to using a wireless mouse. But now even that’s acting up and not reliable anymore.

In Device Manager, the ELAN touchpad doesn’t show up at all, and I’m getting a new error — “I2C HID device, code 10.” I’ve tried everything I could think of, but nothing seems to fix it.

I even took it to a local repair shop. The guy swapped out the SSD, and the touchpad started working again, so I know the hardware is fine. It’s definitely some driver or software issue. Honestly, I’m pretty frustrated and just hoping to find a fix soon.

@Bharat5223, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Check Device Manager for Hidden Devices:

Sometimes, even if a device isn’t showing up, it might still be there, just hidden.

Open Device Manager.

Click on the View tab and select "Show hidden devices."

Look for the I2C HID device or ELAN touchpad. If you see either one with a warning sign, right-click and choose "Uninstall device."

After that, restart your laptop and let Windows attempt to reinstall the driver automatically.

Update I2C HID Device Drivers:

Since the error code you're getting is related to the I2C HID device, updating or reinstalling that driver may help:

In Device Manager, expand Human Interface Devices.

Right-click on I2C HID Device and select Update driver.

Choose Search automatically for updated driver software and see if Windows finds a newer version. If not, check the HP website for updated drivers for your specific model.

Check the ELAN Driver for the Touchpad:

Visit HP Support and download the latest touchpad driver for your specific model.

Once downloaded, install it and restart the PC.

Also, refer to this guide for further troubleshooting: HP Notebook PCs - Troubleshoot the touchpad | HP® Support

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
