Hi @Lewism1404,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like the touchscreen issue might be related to a driver or a setting. Here are a few steps you can follow to troubleshoot and fix the problem.
Check if the Touchscreen is Disabled in Device Manager
- Open Device Manager (press Windows + X and select Device Manager).
- Look for Human Interface Devices.
- If you see HID-compliant touch screen, right-click on it and select Enable if it's disabled.
- If it's not listed, you might need to reinstall or update the driver.
Reinstall the Touchscreen Driver
- In Device Manager, under Human Interface Devices, right-click HID-compliant touch screen and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop, and Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
- If it doesn't, check the HP support website for your specific model, and download the latest touchscreen driver.
Update Windows
Sometimes Windows updates can fix driver issues automatically:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Click Check for updates and install any available updates.
Run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter
Windows has a built-in troubleshooter that may help identify and fix problems:
- Open Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
- Select Hardware and Devices, then click Run the troubleshooter.
Check the Touchscreen in the BIOS
It's possible that the touchscreen functionality has been disabled in the BIOS:
- Restart your laptop and press the Esc key repeatedly as it boots up to enter the BIOS.
- Look for a setting that might disable the touchscreen, and make sure it's enabled.
- Save and exit BIOS to see if that resolves the issue.
Perform a System Restore (if the issue started recently)
If the touchscreen was working before and stopped after a recent change (like an update), you can try performing a system restore:
- Type Create a restore point in the Start menu and select it.
- Under the System Protection tab, click System Restore, and follow the prompts to restore to a point where the touchscreen was working.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
