In looking at the user guide, it would seem that HDMI port is for output. See how the setup is worded
Press the Windows key + p to cycle through one of four display states:
● PC screen only: View the screen image on the computer only.
● Duplicate: View the screen image simultaneously on both the computer and the external
device.
● Extend: View the screen image extended across both the computer and the external device.
● Second screen only: View the screen image on the external device only.
Each time you press the Windows key + p, the display state changes.

Yes, the manual only refers to the one HDMI (out) but no info on using HDMI IN. Others on the forum asked about connecting a gaming console or such to use the display of their PC and were told it was only possible on PCs with HDMI IN. I have that....one clearly marked IN the other marked OUT. There is supposed to a way to switch your monitor to turn on the IN display.....I can't find any way.

I found info indicating there should be a HDMI input button. Try looking at the lower left underside of the monitor. Pressing that should give access to the input choices.

I found it !!!! and posting what I learned....if someone else searches for the info, hopefully they will this post.
HDMI IN : instructions to switch your display to a device plugged in to HDMI IN on your computer
(in my case, I wanted to plug in my Samsung Tablet)
First: plug in your device to the HDMI IN port in the back of your display/monitor.
then:
1. Bottom right corner of your screen you click on the "^" which opens the list of hidden icons.
2. Click on the display icon (looks like a black square outlined in grey) which opens the HP Display Options
3. Below the various lighting options you will see the letters 'HDMI' and a pic of the end of an HDMI connector
4. Click on HDMI INPUT , which will open a pop up telling you how to get back to your standard display once you're finished
5. Click on "continue to HDMI" , your screen will go black briefly, and then you'll see the screen of whatever device you have connected to your "HDMI IN" on the back of your monitor.
6. when finished, to return to your PC display, hold down : CNTROL + SHIFT while pressing the S and then D
(and write that down somewhere if you think you might forget !)
Note: some models of HP All In One desktops have a button somewhere on the monitor to do this switch, but, my model doesnt. So if you can't find a button, then try the steps I've listed above.
This information is nowhere in the HP documentation for my model that I could see....I'll look again, nor is it easily found on the internet. It took endless searches and endless patience, but, I struck on a video on Youtube that some young gent was kind enough to make and post. I am so grateful he did.
