Hi @mollie118,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're having trouble connecting your HP 230 wireless keyboard to your MacBook, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.

Check the Batteries: Ensure the batteries in both the mouse and keyboard are fresh and properly inserted.

Turn the Keyboard On/Off: There should be a power switch on the keyboard. Toggle it off and then back on.

Re-Pair the Device:

  • Open System Preferences on your MacBook.
  • Go to Bluetooth and make sure it's turned on.
  • Put your keyboard in pairing mode. This often involves holding down a specific button (refer to the keyboard’s manual for details).
  • Wait for your keyboard to appear in the list of Bluetooth devices. Click Pair or Connect next to it.

Unpair and Reconnect: If the keyboard has previously been connected but isn't working now:

  • In Bluetooth settings, find the keyboard and click the Remove or X icon next to it to unpair.
  • Put the keyboard back into pairing mode and try reconnecting.

Reset Bluetooth Module:

  • On your MacBook, hold down Shift + Option and click the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar.
  • Select Reset the Bluetooth module.
  • Restart your MacBook and try pairing the keyboard again.

Update macOS: Ensure your macOS is up to date, as software updates can sometimes fix Bluetooth connectivity issues.

Interference: Make sure there are no other wireless devices or electronics nearby that might be causing interference.

Check for Compatibility: Verify that the keyboard is compatible with macOS. Some keyboards have specific compatibility requirements or may need special drivers.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I can't connect it to my phone. I can't see it from a laptop. If you search 'Bluetooth keyboard' on Google or argos this device come up but there is no reference to bluetooth anywhere on the box or documentation. Can you confirm that this device actually has Bluetooth or can only be used with the dongle?

HI @Jw00000,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The HP 230 Wireless Mouse and Keyboard Combo is designed to work with a wireless USB dongle, not Bluetooth. Here's a quick breakdown to clarify:

**1. ** Wireless USB Dongle vs. Bluetooth

Wireless USB Dongle: The HP 230 Wireless Mouse and Keyboard Combo uses a small USB dongle (receiver) that you plug into a USB port on your computer. This dongle creates a wireless connection between the mouse/keyboard and the computer.

Bluetooth: Bluetooth devices connect directly to a computer or phone via Bluetooth without needing a dongle. If a device supports Bluetooth, it would typically mention it in the product documentation or on the packaging.

**2. ** Confirming the Connection Type

Check the Box and Documentation:

  • Since you mentioned that the documentation and box don’t reference Bluetooth, it’s likely that this model uses a wireless USB dongle.

Examine the Dongle:

  • The dongle provided with your HP 230 Wireless Mouse and Keyboard Combo should be a USB device, not a Bluetooth adapter. Bluetooth adapters are usually different in design and are explicitly labeled.

**3. ** Troubleshooting Connection Issues

If you're having trouble connecting the device:

Ensure Proper USB Connection:

  • Plug the wireless USB dongle into a USB port on your laptop or computer. Make sure it's firmly connected.

Install Drivers:

  • The device should be plug-and-play, but sometimes installing specific drivers from HP’s website can help.

Check for Interference:

  • Make sure there are no sources of interference (like other wireless devices) that might affect the connection.

Test with Another Computer:

  • Try connecting the dongle to a different computer to confirm that the issue isn't with your original computer's USB ports or settings.

Reset the Devices:

  • For some devices, turning them off and then back on, or removing and reinserting the dongle, can resolve connection issues.

I hope this helps

Take care and have a good day.
