HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-in-One Printer

I am attempting to print a letter from Word. I select the mailing Icon. I choose envelope. the box opens and the address appears so I push print. Nothing happens.  (if I choose labels, the printer prints the labels as requested)

Any Ideas?

True -- There are a lot of places for this go to sideways.

The address for the envelope is part of what is needed, of course.

Version of Office?

Operating System Version?

Can you print just the envelope as a separate job?

That is, instead of printing letter and then envelope in one "Mailing" operation,

Can you print an envelope?

==============================================

Manual Envelope

This generally works when configured correctly -

The method is not what you want -- it is certainly something to keep in mind if needed.

The setup and job do not depend on "Mailings > Envelopes"

Create and Print a manual envelope

This requires that you create a document shaped and sized like the envelope you are using -

Reminder

For envelope sizes other than standard, create a Custom Size Paper Form in Printing Preferences

Example - Word - Document - DL Envelope

Tray and Paper

The printer must be aware of the Tray and Paper Settings.

Tray and Paper, at least, is not Operating System / version dependent.

EWS > HP Document / How-to (InkJet Printers – Original Format)

Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

NOTE:  Find printer IP address

Section Open the EWS over a local network orientation

OR

HP Laser Printers - Using the Printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

EWS – Tray and Paper Management

Original EWS

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Settings > Preferences > Tray and Paper (Management)

Select / Adjust settings for Paper Size / Type

Model and EWS version Dependent:  Advanced section

Click Apply to save changes

Word > Mailings > Envelopes

Job Configuration

If you expect to print both letter and envelope in one job, he "letter" paper must be pulled from one tray (source) and the envelope for that letter, must be in another tray.

Can't do both?

Print the letter and then come back and print the envelope in a separate job.

Regardless,

The envelope location / tray should be sourced in the Envelope settings Printing Options > Feed From

Example - Windows - Word > Mailings > Envelope
