HP Pavilion Desktop - 550-103na (ENERGY STAR)

I upgraded the 125GB SSD with a 1TB SSD in April last year.  This new SSD failed and has been replaced by the supplier.  Windows 10 was reloaded successfully and everything works apart from the bluetooth which windows says is not available on this machine.  Note this machine has always had bluetooth via Intel dual band wireless – AC7260H Model 7260HMW.

The wifi works fine from this unit.  I checked on the HP website but there are no drivers listed under this PC for the intel dual band wireless, in fact intel does not appear in the list at all.

I checked the BIOS to see if there was a bluetooth switch which there wasn't.

Looking at some of the threads on this subject it appears this could be caused by the BIOS reverting to an earlier state.  The current BIOS version is AMI A0.11 14/07/2016.  There is a list of BIOS updates but the date for the A0.11 is earlier than my machine.

Please can someone advise how I may get the bluetooth function back.

Hi:

If it is a missing driver issue, you can use the Intel Bluetooth driver from Dell support since HP and Intel for some reason don't have the Intel 7260 BT driver anymore.

Peter,

Thank you for this.

I uploaded the driver following Dell instructions and the Microsoft installed driver was replaced by the Intel one.  Still no Bluetooth. However,  I had another look at an unknown device in the device manager (I had suspected this probably was the Bluetooth).  This time when I asked for available drivers i was provided by a long list which included Bluetooth.  Lots of drivers were available but none for intel so I chose what seemed to be a HP generic Bluetooth driver, 'HP integrated Bluetooth module'.  Microsoft warned against loading but I knew I could always remove it again.  Thankfully everything worked and Bluetooth function was restored.  I looked back at the now many Bluetooth entries in the device manager and all of them said the correct driver was in place.

So all resolved.  I am not sure what was wrong with the Microsoft driver but loading the intel one seems to have opened things up.

Thanks once again

Richard
