Hi all, hoping someone can help me with this very frustrating issue. My laptop seems to have blocked our internet. It will connect to the WIFI at our home but says connected/no internet/secured.

The WIFI is working fine for all other devices in the house and the computer works fine on other networks at other places just not at home.

I have tried rebooting both computer and router

Resetting the internet driver

Resetting the adaptor

Calling ISP- they say its a laptop problem and no issues on their end

Forgetting network and reconnecting

Network reset

Everything the internet tells me to try I have tired.

The only thing I cant work out how to do is the MAC filtering as I cant get past the netguard page that says Device is blocked by access control in router

Any ideas on what I can do?

Hi @ash-and-four_4

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It’s understandably frustrating when everything else works and your laptop is singled out. Your laptop is being blocked by your home router’s access control settings—specifically MAC filtering or device restrictions.

To restore internet access, you’ll need to log into your router’s admin page and unblock the device manually.

You’ve already done a thorough job trying resets and driver fixes, so let’s focus on the router’s access control settings.

Steps to Unblock Your Laptop from Router Access Control

1. Identify Your Laptop’s MAC Address

  • Press Windows + R, type cmd, and press Enter.
  • In the Command Prompt, type:ipconfig /all
  • Look for Wireless LAN adapter Wi-Fi and note the Physical Address (e.g., F4-3C-3C-2A-1B-7D). This is your MAC address.

2. Log into Your Router’s Admin Page

  • Open a browser and enter your router’s IP address (commonly 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1).
  • Enter your admin username and password. If unsure, check the router label or manual.

3. Navigate to Access Control or MAC Filtering

  • Look for sections labeled Access Control, MAC Filtering, or Device Management.
  • Find your laptop’s MAC address in the blocked list.
  • Select Allow, Enable, or Remove from Block List depending on your router’s interface.

4. Save Changes and Reboot

  • After unblocking, save the settings.
  • Restart both the router and your laptop.
  • Reconnect to Wi-Fi and check for internet access.

  • If you’re redirected to a Netguard page, it may be part of your router’s parental control or security suite. You’ll need to disable or adjust Netguard settings from the router’s admin interface.
  • If you’re unsure of the router login credentials, reset the router using the pinhole reset button (hold for 10 seconds). This will restore factory settings and remove all blocks—but use this only if you’re comfortable reconfiguring the network.

You’ve done everything right by isolating the issue and documenting your steps. Once the MAC block is lifted, your laptop should reconnect without issue.
