Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an external hard drive a\that connects to the USB port. The laptop sees it but after 30 seconds the screen blinks and resets. I bought this at Best Buy and Geek squad has no clue what it is I tried everything. Other items such as wireless mouse connected to usb work fine its just the external hard drives.

Hi

No idea either.

However if I had those devices I would know that a mouse takes a lot less power then a Disk Drive.

I would think  "is the USB port shutting down?"

Should I have something like (but not exactly) this...

with 2 pugs to take power from 2 usb ports.

But obviously the Geek Squad have considered this and ruled it out.

@Lil_Boy_Bluepoint might be valid if the USB drive is powered by the USB port.  If that is the case, perhaps a drive that has its own power supply would be better or use a self powered hub instead of letting the drive power from the USB port.

Hi thanks for responding to my issue. I tried a plug in external server as well as one powered by the laptops usb port. But same conclusion.

Thanks again for the help.

I would try this drive on another PC, then.  See if it is a problem with the drive or the laptop.

In the statement " I bought this at Best Buy and Geek squad has no clue" is that reffering to the USB drive or the laptop?

I tried both external servers on another PC and another laptop a Dell and they worked fine. I reached out to HP months ago and no response about warranty coverage. I think that is the only thing that will fix this issue.

Thanks
