HP Deskjet 3512 e-All-in-One Printer

I have a HP Deskjet3512 all in one printer. Old but works great for my needs. I've always had a wifi network named after the printer which i have to use to print remotely instead of my home wifi. I never thought much of it but recently read its a bad idea to have an open network connection like that. So i tried to set that network with a security password. My problem is, I don't know the current password which would allow me to use it with a password I'd create. Where and how do i find the existing password? Also can I not just set the printer to use my home wifi signal instead of the created one? I tried turning direct connect off but the printer does'nt connect to my home wifi then??? Am i making any sense to anyone
