Hi @Jnealy1,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP Stream laptop might be having issues with the network adapter driver, especially if it’s not showing the Wi-Fi symbol and is prompting you to install the network adapter.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and hopefully fix the issue:
1. Check for Windows Updates:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Click Check for updates and install any available updates. Sometimes, network drivers are included in Windows updates.
2. Reinstall Network Adapter Driver:
- Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Network adapters section.
- Right-click on the network adapter (if listed) and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop. Windows should attempt to reinstall the driver automatically.
3. Manually Update the Network Adapter Driver:
- Go to Device Manager as described above.
- Right-click on the network adapter (if listed) and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
4. Install Drivers from HP Support Website:
- Visit the HP Support website.
- Enter your laptop’s model number and search for the latest network adapter drivers for Windows 11.
- Download and install the driver manually.
5. Check Network Settings:
- Go to Settings > Network & Internet.
- Ensure that Wi-Fi is turned on.
- Click Advanced network settings and check if the Wi-Fi network adapter is listed there.
6. Check for Hardware Issues:
If none of the above steps work, there might be a hardware issue with the Wi-Fi adapter.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
