Product: HP Wireless Keyboard and Mouse 300

I put brand-new batteries in both keyboard and mouse. I turned the on using the power switch on the underside and pressed the connect button on both, the mouse is working as expected, however the keyboard is doing nothing (no light for num-lock or cap-lock and key function).
