I've been using my HP Spectre x360 13-ap0xxx for about a month now, and everything was working fine with the pen until recently. I hadn’t used it for about a month, and when I picked it up last night to use in Microsoft Paint, it stopped responding entirely.
When I connected the pen to charge, the light was orange, indicating it was charging, but it still won’t connect to any of my HP Pen-compatible devices. I’ve tried various troubleshooting steps found in other posts, but nothing seems to resolve the issue.
Can anyone provide assistance or advice on how to fix this? Thank you!

Hi @RohitShingare,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your pen is not Working with HP Spectre. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.
Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot the HP pen issue on your HP Spectre x360:
1. Check the Pen's Battery
- Since the charging light is orange, the pen should be charging, but it’s worth verifying the charge level:
- Fully charge the pen (until the orange light turns off or green if available).
- If the pen still does not work after a full charge, try replacing the battery (for pens that use AAAA batteries) if applicable.
2. Pair/Re-pair the Pen with Bluetooth
If your pen is Bluetooth-enabled, it might need to be re-paired:
- Open Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices.
- Check if the pen is listed under paired devices. If it is, remove it and try re-pairing it.
- Press and hold the button on the pen to start pairing mode (refer to your pen’s manual for exact steps) and try pairing it again with your laptop.
3. Update or Reinstall Pen Drivers
- Device Manager: Go to Device Manager > Human Interface Devices and find your pen’s driver. Right-click and select Update Driver.
- If updating doesn’t work, try uninstalling the driver and then restarting the computer, which should reinstall it automatically.
4. Check Windows Ink Settings
- Open Settings > Devices > Pen & Windows Ink.
- Ensure that the correct options are selected, especially Ignore touch input when using the pen (if available).
- Test the pen again in applications like Microsoft Paint or OneNote.
5. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
- HP provides a Hardware Diagnostics tool to check if the pen is detected as a connected device.
- Download and run the HP Hardware Diagnostics from the HP support website and check if the tool detects any issues with your pen or touchscreen.
6. Update Your System
- Ensure that Windows 11 is fully up-to-date, especially if there were recent updates that might affect pen functionality.
- Update your laptop's BIOS, firmware, and drivers using HP Support Assistant to make sure your device is running the latest version.
7. Check for Interference or Hardware Issues
- If the pen still doesn't work after software-related troubleshooting, check if there are any hardware issues. Try the pen on another compatible device to see if it works there.
- If the pen doesn't work on any device, it might have a hardware defect, and you should contact HP support for a replacement.
