The option to select a connection has disappeared from my laptop taskbar, as well as my settings. I've tried multiple solutions to fix this, such as checking my internal ping on the command prompt, restarting my laptop as well as preforming a hard reset, attempting to troubleshoot (though to no avail, due to it requiring an internet connection to troubleshoot in the first place), trying to reset my driver through the device manager, and yet nothing seems to be working.

It sounds like you're experiencing issues with your network connection on your HP Stream laptop. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the problem.

 

Check for Airplane Mode: Make sure that Airplane Mode is turned off on your laptop. This mode disables all wireless connections, including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Restart your laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve network issues. Make sure to fully shut down your laptop and then turn it back on.

Wi-Fi switch or key combination: Some laptops have a physical Wi-Fi switch or a key combination (e.g., Fn + F2) to enable or disable the wireless network. Check if your laptop has such a switch or key combination, and ensure that Wi-Fi is turned on.

Check Network Settings: 

 

  • a. Open the Settings app (you can use the Windows key + I keyboard shortcut). 
  • b. Go to "Network & Internet." 
  • c. Check the "Wi-Fi" section and ensure that Wi-Fi is turned on and that your network is not in airplane mode.

 

Network Troubleshooter: You mentioned that you couldn't use the troubleshooter due to the lack of an internet connection, but you can try the following: 

 

  • a. Connect your laptop to a different network if possible, such as using an Ethernet cable or a mobile hotspot from another device. 
  • b. Run the Network Troubleshooter again after connecting to a different network.

 

Reinstall Network Adapter Drivers: 

 

  • a. Open Device Manager (you can search for it in the Windows search bar). 
  • b. Expand the "Network adapters" section. 
  • c. Right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter and select "Uninstall device." 
  • d. After the driver is uninstalled, restart your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the driver upon restart.

 

System Restore: If the issue started recently and you have a system restore point from a time when your Wi-Fi was working correctly, you can restore your system to that point. Be aware that this will revert your system to the selected point, so make sure to back up your important data first.

 

Windows Updates: Ensure that your Windows operating system is up to date. Sometimes, updating Windows can resolve compatibility issues.

 

Check for Hardware Issues: If none of the software solutions work, it's possible there could be a hardware issue with your laptop's Wi-Fi adapter. 

 

Remember to perform these steps in the order listed, and test your Wi-Fi connection after each one to see if the issue is resolved.
