Operating System: Microsoft Windows 11

I've been using Proton VPN for a long time with no issues on the internet while gaming. However, this past month, I've been getting a lot of latency issues and frame drops because of the internet. I thought it was because of ProtonVPN so I checked the data usage in my settings. When it popped up, I was shocked by how much data it was using. I've never had this problem before so I'm asking how can data usage limit my connection.
