Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I see from your post that you are getting an error 0x800704cf on your HP notebook. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Have you checked the date and time of the notebook, and change it to the right time, also check for the timezone settings.
Have you followed any troubleshooting steps before posting this on HP Support Forums?
Are you using a proxy server? If yes, please disable it temporarily and check if the issue will persist.
Have you tried to run the built-in troubleshooter? Press the Windows and I keys simultaneously to open Settings. Click on Update & Security. Click on Troubleshoot then run the Internet Connections troubleshooter.
Let us check the System Date and Time on your computer.
If they are showing incorrect values, then follow the below steps and correct the time and date according to your time zone.
1. Open Date and Time by pressing Windows + R keys, clicking Control Panel, clicking Clock, Language, and Region, and then clicking Date and Time.
2. Click the Date and Time tab, and then click Change date and time. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
3. In the Date and Time Settings dialog box, do one or more of the following:
-
- To change the hour, double-click the hour, and then click the arrows to increase or decrease the value.
- To change the minutes, double-click the minutes, and then click the arrows to increase or decrease the value.
- To change the seconds, double-click the seconds, and then click the arrows to increase or decrease the value.
4. When you have finished changing the time settings, click OK.
5. To change the time zone, click Change time zone.
6. In the Time Zone Settings dialog box, click your current time zone in the drop-down list, and then click OK.
Note: If your time zone observes daylight saving time and you want your computer's clock to be adjusted automatically when daylight saving time changes, make sure the Automatically adjust clock for Daylight Saving Time check box is selected.
If the issue persists, I would suggest you try these steps here:
Method 1: I suggest you to check if the services responsible for Windows update is running. Refer to these steps:
a. Press Windows key +R, type “services.msc”
b. Locate the BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer and the Windows Update Services and check if it is running.
c. If not, right click on the service and click start to start the service.
Method 2: Run Windows Update Troubleshooter
I suggest you to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter. Follow these steps to run Windows Update Troubleshooter:
a. Press Windows key + S and type troubleshooting.
b. Select Troubleshooting.
c. Select View all on the top left corner.
d. Click Windows Update troubleshooter.
e. Follow the on-screen instructions to run the troubleshooter.
f. Check if issue persists
If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to do a clean boot: For more details on how to follow the steps, please click here for Instructions.
If the issue persists, the next step would be to install the latest drivers:
Right-Click on start button> click device manager> Network adapters>then select the wireless drivers and right-click on it and uninstall the Wifi drivers.
Put the check mark next to delete the driver software for this device and click ok.
Now restart the computer and then check again.
Alternatively, I would suggest here is to update the Bios, Chipset and Wireless card drivers on your PC from our HP support website, using this link.
Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.
Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!
Eagerly waiting for your response!
that said, If the information I've provided was helpful,
give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!
Good Luck.
