HP Envy h8-1520t
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a HP envy h8-1520t desk desktop computer.  When Windows 10 last updated, I lost my wifi driver and now only have the ethernet driver.

When I go into HP to download a wifi driver, I can't download a driver because my computer now has Windows10 (along with most of the world) and my computer came with Windows 8.  HP support states "If you do not see the version of your operating system (OS) listed, HP does not have any downloadable software or drivers for your product."

Where can I download a wifi driver for my h8-1520t Windows 10 computer?

Thanks to anybody who can help me with this issue.

You're very welcome.

You must have the dreaded Ralink wifi adapter then.

You can try this, but don't get your hopes up.

Go to the device manager again.  At the top of the device manager window, click on the View tab.

Check the Show hidden devices option.

Now click on and expand the Network Adapters device manager category.

You should see the Ralink wifi adapter in light shade.

Right click on that, select Uninstall, check the Uninstall driver box, restart the PC, and see if Windows installs the wifi adapter properly.

If it is still hidden, then there is no hope.

There are so many USB wifi adapters to choose from.

Here are two that are reliable...I recommend the first one because it offers twice the throughput as the second one.

I have the second one on one of my HP PC's.  I got it for free as part of a wireless router purchase.  It works just fine.

Hi:

Do you know what model wifi adapter your PC has, because the parts list shows that there can be one of 4 different wifi cards that could have been installed.

http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?searchText=C9D47AV

If the wifi adapter needs a driver, then there will be a device listed in the device manager under an Other Devices category, labeled as a Network Controller.

If you see such a device, please post the hardware ID for it.  Use this guide for how to find the hardware ID for a device.

https://www.howtogeek.com/193798/how-to-find-drivers-for-unknown-devices-in-the-device-manager/

If you do not see such a device, your PC probably came with a Ralink wifi adapter, and those have known issues with W10 by disappearing completely from the device manager.

The only workaround is to replace the wifi card with one that has better support for W10, or purchase an external USB wifi adapter.

Sorry @Paul_Tikkanen , we must have been posting at the same time.

@nfish0344,You are correct about there not being any Windows 10 drivers listed.  On the support page

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-ENVY-h8-1500-Desktop-PC-series/5330773/model/533...

are listed the Windows 8.1 drivers and there are two different series listed.  Broadcom Wireless Network Controller Driver and Ralink Wireless Network Controller Driver.  Look in device manager to see which device is listed and the driver that is shown, if any.  The hardware ID would be needed, also, to get the latest for either.

Hi, Paul,

I've gone thru the instructions you have included, and I don't see an "Other Devices" folder in my device manager.

This has been very frustrating to me and I just want to take the easiest route.  I can't google this topic one more time without loosing my mind ;-).

You mentioned "purchase an external USB wifi adapter" in your response to my question.  I'm thinking this might be the easiest route to take.  But, I know nothing abut USB wifi adapters.  Can you suggest a couple of types I should be looking at.

Thanks, again for your help.

Thanks, Paul,

Once I clicked on Show hidden devices, everything you stated is true. It listed "RalinkRT5390R 802.11 bgn Wi-Fi Adapter" in the lighter shade. I went thru your instructions and uninstalled it, then restarted my computer.  The Wi-Fi adapter is no where to be found.

I'm going to order one of the USB wifi adapters that you have listed in your response later today.

Thanks so much for spending your valuable time helping me with this issue.  I had hit my level of frustration over the past few weeks. Plus, I have cables running across my office floor so that I can at least have my computer connected to the internet thru the ethernet cable.

Once again, Thanks.
