Intel I219-LM auto negotiation fail

HP Recommended
ProOne 600 G2
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi

We have a problem with several of our computermodels that is running Intel NIC´s. For example ProOne 600 G2 and Elitebook Folio 9470m, with I219-LM and 82579LM.

The NIC fails to auto negotiate with the switches for speed and duplex. This only occurs on HP switches 1700-24 and 1820. If we connect the NIC to a Cisco 2960 switch it works fine.

All switches have duplex and speed set to Auto Negotiation.

If I change the parameter "Wait for link" from Auto to On, on the NIC, everything works as it should.

Also this problem only occur in Windows 10, Windows 7 doesnt have the problem, driver related?

I219-LM

12.13.17.7

Intel 82579LM

12.15.22.6

We have tried with the latest drivers aswell, still the same problem.

We have many computers where we have this problem, I dont want to manually set "Wait for link = On". Any way to do that easily through the registry?

Any ideas on what settings I can change on the HP1700 and 1820 switches to make them work better with auto negotiation?

Thanks

Hi,

I have seen similar problems is the past with ethernet auto negotiation.

1. Make sure that your cable runs are less than 100 meters.

2. Make sure that you are using a quality cat 5e or cat 6 cable. Review this document.

3. I suggest that you only use certified wiring technicians.

Try a 10 meter cable that is directly connected to the switch and PC. What the results are for this test?

CISCO switches are the industry leaders and are typically more tolerant for ethernet devices using auto negotiation.
