Internet Issue_ I have a HP Mini laptop with Windows XP

I have a HP Mini 1000 laptop with Windows XP. I'm trying to connect to the internet but I'm having a hard time doing so. The network and internet setting for the available wifi's in the area don't even show up as an option. I don't know what to do. Can anyone help me?

Begin with a command line...

ping 127.0.0.1   and post the result please.

C:\>ping 127.0.0.1

Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),

C:\>ping 192.168.0.1

Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),

Then to the default gateway/ISP modem router, which may not be the same as my 192.169.0.1.

Then type 

getmac     and post the results please.

PLEASE POST ANY RESULTS.
First:- Turn off the computer, press and hold the PWR button for 4 seconds.

Then - Leave only keyboard and mouse connected, disconnect all externally connected
devices such as Docking Station, USB storage devices, displays, and printers.
Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.

Next - Press and Hold the Power button for 15 seconds to Hard Reset.
Rinse and Repeat; Re-Connect the AC adapter.

NOW begin checking/testing/proving the Hardware is fit for purpose.
Power on your PC, press ESC (repeatedly), then F2 at the prompt.
Choose System Tests (Fast Test does a 4 minute hardware check).
