What to do if your connection was saying 1000/1000mbps and dropped and now says it is 100/100mbps. Both ethernet and wireless. Speed test now says 94 from 940mbps, checked with another computer and that is still at 940, so it is not the service. Switched around connections used and wires.

Take a very-close look at the printing along the length of the Ethernet cable.

If you see "CAT 5", then you get 100/100 speeds.

If you see "CAT 5e" or "CAT 6", then you get up to the 1000 speed.

Note that "1000" is a power of ten, while 950 times 1024 times 1024 is approximately the same number.

Compare to measuring in inches or centimeters -- different units give different numbers.

That "1000" is reported using "base-10" arithmetic, while that "940" (or "950") is reported using "base-2" units.
