Hi @1N13480DQ8

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If your HP desktop’s network port isn’t working, the issue may stem from a driver fault, power-saving setting, or hardware conflict.

Let’s walk through a few focused steps to restore reliable wired connectivity.

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting for LAN Port Not Working

1. Check Physical Connection

  • Ensure the Ethernet cable is securely plugged into both the desktop and router.
  • Try a different cable and a different port on the router.
  • Look for blinking lights near the LAN port—if none, the port may not be active.

2. Power Cycle the Network Stack

  • Shut down the desktop.
  • Unplug the power cable and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Disconnect the Ethernet cable.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then reconnect everything and power on.

3. Update or Reinstall Network Driver

  • Right-click Start > Device Manager
  • Expand Network adapters
  • Right-click your Ethernet adapter (e.g., Realtek, Intel) > Update driver > Search automatically
  • If the issue persists:
    • Right-click > Uninstall device
    • Restart the PC to reinstall the driver automatically

4. Disable Power Saving for LAN Adapter

  • In Device Manager, double-click the Ethernet adapter
  • Go to the Power Management tab
  • Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power

5. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Restart the PC and press Esc, then F2
  • Select Component Tests > Network > Ethernet Test
  • This checks for hardware-level faults in the LAN port

6. Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers

  • Visit: HP Desktop Drivers and BIOS
  • Enter your desktop’s model number and select Windows 11
  • Download and install:
    • BIOS update
    • Chipset driver
    • LAN driver

These updates improve hardware communication and port stability.

Let me know what you observe after these steps—especially whether the LAN adapter appears in Device Manager or if the port lights up.

You’re doing everything right by staying attentive and proactive. With a few adjustments, your desktop should return to reliable wired connectivity.
