My MS wireless mouse doesn't show up as an option of devices that can be connected. I have new batteries in the mouse.

Hi @BarclayJames,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Here are a few troubleshooting steps to get your Microsoft wireless mouse connected.

Check if the Mouse is Powered On

  • Ensure the new batteries are correctly inserted.
  • If the mouse has an on/off switch, make sure it's turned on.
  • Some mice have a connect button—press and hold it for a few seconds to initiate pairing mode.

Check Connection Type

  • If it’s a Bluetooth Mouse
    • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Add device > Bluetooth and check if it appears.
    • If it doesn’t show up, restart Bluetooth by toggling it off and on.
  • If it uses a USB Receiver
    • Unplug the receiver and plug it into a different USB port.
    • Try using a different computer to check if the receiver works.

Update or Reinstall Drivers

  • Open Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager).
  • Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
  • Right-click your mouse (if listed) and select Update driver.
  • If the mouse isn’t listed, check under Bluetooth or Universal Serial Bus controllers.

Restart Your Computer

  • A simple restart can often fix connectivity issues.

Check for Interference

  • Other wireless devices (WiFi routers, keyboards, or another Bluetooth device) may interfere. Try moving the mouse closer to the receiver or PC.

Try Another Device

  • If possible, test the mouse on another computer to confirm whether the issue is with the mouse or the PC.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
