My new PC loses the internet connection at random times.  It is a wired connection with a new cable.  No other devices on the modem lost connection to the internet

Hi @joann552,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I am sorry to hear that your PC is losing internet connection randomly while being connected through a wired Ethernet cable, I would request you to please follow the steps:

Disable Network Adapter Power Saving

  • Windows often turns off the Ethernet adapter to “save power.”
  • Press Win + X → Device Manager
  • Expand Network adapters
  • Right-click your Ethernet adapter
  • Click Properties
  • Go to Power Management tab
  • Uncheck:
  • Click OK
  • Restart PC

Update or Reinstall Ethernet Driver

  • Do NOT rely on Windows Update alone.
  • In Device Manager
  • Right-click Ethernet adapter
  • Click Uninstall device
  • Restart PC
  • Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.

Run Network Reset

  • Settings → Network & Internet
  • Advanced network settings
  • Network reset
  • Restart PC
  • This rebuilds network stack completely.

Inspect the Ethernet Adapter:

  • Go to Device Manager on your PC and check for issues with the network adapter under "Network adapters".
  • If there's a yellow warning icon,
  • Right-click on the adapter and select "Update Driver" to ensure it's using the most recent drivers.

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists.

Take care and have an amazing day!
