I have an HP all in one, the power to the whole house has gone off and come back on several times. Each time the gateway for the internet has gone out it comes back on and takes a few minutes to allow logging into it. Meanwhile the computer won’t start until the gateway starts putting out a signal. What if I wanted to use the computer offline? Type some letters etc that don’t have to use the internet. How do I get the computer to start up without the signal from the gateway being on?

Hi @Wizard88,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The issue you're describing seems related to your HP All-In-One 27 Desktop PC's reliance on an internet connection or signal from a network gateway to start up. Typically, computers do not require an active internet connection to boot up, so this behavior might be specific to your computer's configuration or power management settings. Here's what you can try to resolve this issue and use the computer offline.
Check Power Settings:
- Make sure your computer is not configured to enter a low-power state (such as Sleep or Hibernate) when it loses internet connectivity. You can adjust these settings in the Power & Sleep settings in Windows.
Unplug the Network Cable:
- If your computer is connected to the internet via an Ethernet cable, try unplugging the cable from the computer before starting it up. This will prevent the computer from attempting to establish an internet connection.
Disable Wi-Fi:
- If you're using Wi-Fi, disable the Wi-Fi connection in your computer's settings before starting it up. This should prevent the computer from trying to connect to a network.
Restart the Computer:
- After making these changes, restart your computer and see if it boots up without requiring an internet signal.
BIOS/UEFI Settings:
- It's possible that there might be some specific BIOS/UEFI settings related to network boot options. You can access these settings during the computer's startup process (usually by pressing a specific key, like F2 or Del). Check for any settings that might be causing this behavior and adjust them accordingly.
Contact HP Support:
- If you continue to experience this issue, it's a good idea to contact HP's customer support for assistance. They may be able to provide guidance specific to your computer model and configuration.
Reinstall/Update Network Drivers:
- Sometimes, issues with network drivers can cause strange behaviors. You can try reinstalling or updating your network drivers to see if it resolves the problem.
Reset to Default Settings:
- As a last resort, you could try resetting your computer to its default settings or performing a system restore to a point before this issue started occurring. Be sure to back up any important data before attempting this.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
