I had a clean up of the processes on my computer. After the clean up my WIFI does not work. Aeroplane Mode is stuck on “grey” and cannot be turned off.
can anyone suggest a quick solution. The computer came with no Discs so cannot reload.
thank you in advance.

I cant exactly remember but basically I cleared the Temporary Folder. I also deleted a number of processes running in the background.
I was trying to speed the computer up as it is very slow.
thanks in advance.

Since it is difficult to know what you did, what caused this problem
try microsoft restore, if you have a restore available before this change!

My Mother has same issue on her HP Envy 700 PC Series and thinks it was a recent windows update that did it. Claims the desktop never had airplane mode before, now it's greyed out on the task bar stuck on, but no airplane mode exists in settings or device files, and her WIFI settings and device files are missing. Microsoft will not update, have the error message on her PC, they have no info on this issue yet... try again later. i think a restore is only option until they come up with a fix. maybe some driver repair tool would work, any ideas anyone?

Fixed by updating everything in device manager network adapters, had only tried updating the main 2 before, restarted PC and airplane mode and wifi options were back and fully functional. Seems she was wrong about airplane mode not being on there previously... which one of you is using your desktop on an airplane?
Thanks to all the helpful people here, read a few helpful posts, cheers!

My apologies for the delay in replying.
So I did not have a sufficient Restore Point therefore am unable to fix this way.
Whilst the computer will boot ok I guess I will need to explore updating some hardware drivers. Because I have no Internet access from this desktop I will have to copy from another PC.
Silly question but does the WIFI use an APP to run.
Any further suggestions would be appreciated.
thank you. Phil nick.

For the wifi to work, the card just needs to be active, with a compatible driver installed
You can sometimes have additional software, but not normally needed!
