HP All-in-One 27 Desktop PC 27-cb0000a (3B5K5AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

My wireless keyboard number pad on the right side no longer works. It is only able to be used as “arrows” (UP, DOWN ETC). The numbers located above the qwerty row do work. I have replaced batteries, uninstalled and reinstalled the keyboard, my Windows 11 is automatically updated when needed, and I don’t know what else to do because I’ve tried all the HP support troubleshooting links that I can think of. This happened after replacing the batteries of my mouse and restarting my desktop. I should also note I do not have a “NUMLOCK” button on my keyboard or a light indicator and my onscreen keyboard shows that it is in fact ON. Instead of a “NUMLOCK” button I have a calculator Icon. Anyone else have a keyboard without a “NUMLOCK” button that has had a similar problem?

Hi @CasitaGranado,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If the number pad on your HP wireless keyboard is not functioning and behaves only as arrow keys, even after going through various troubleshooting steps, here’s how you can fix the number pad behaving like arrow keys on your HP All-in-One 27 Desktop PC (27 cb0000a) running Windows 11.

Num Lock Key

  1. Num Lock Key:
    • Ensure the Num Lock key is activated. On many keyboards, pressing the Num Lock key toggles between the number pad being used for numbers versus the arrow keys. Look for an indicator light that shows whether Num Lock is enabled.

  2. Keyboard Settings:
    • Go to Settings > Devices > Typing and ensure any settings affecting the Num Lock behaviour are properly configured.

  3. Test with a Different Device:
    • If possible, connect the keyboard to another computer to verify whether the Num Lock key and number pad functionality work elsewhere. This step can help determine if the issue is specific to the keyboard or the PC settings.

  4. Ease of Access Settings:
    • Sometimes, certain accessibility settings can change keyboard behaviours. Navigate to Settings > Ease of Access > Keyboard and ensure settings like Mouse Keys are disabled, as they can affect the number pad functionality.

  5. Bluetooth Settings:
    • Go to Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & Other Devices and ensure the keyboard is properly paired with your PC. Disconnect and reconnect to see if that helps.

 6. Registry Troubleshooting:

  • For advanced users, checking registry settings might be an option, though it should be approached with caution. One such setting involves the initial boot state of Num Lock, often found in the registry under “HKEY_USERS.Default\Control Panel\Keyboard\InitialKeyboardIndicators”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
