I have a hp pavilion x360 2 in 1 laptop and just bought a rechargeable mpp 2.0 tilt pen that I was under the impression was compatible with this laptop. I had seen a few posts in the support pages saying it is compatible however I am struggling to be able to connect it to the laptop. Can anyone provide me help please. Really frustrating product so far and I just want to be able to use it

Hi @Gabbo38,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Connecting an HP MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen to your Pavilion x360 can sometimes be a little tricky, but let's troubleshoot to make sure everything is set up correctly. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you:
Check Compatibility
Confirm your exact Pavilion x360 model supports MPP (Microsoft Pen Protocol) 2.0. Not all Pavilion x360 models are compatible with MPP 2.0 pens. You can check your laptop's manual or specifications online.
Charge the Pen
Ensure your HP Tilt Pen is fully charged. If it’s rechargeable, plug it in for at least 30 minutes to ensure it has sufficient power.
Enable Touchscreen Features
Ensure that the touchscreen and pen support features are enabled:
- Search for "Calibrate the screen for pen and touch input" in the Windows search bar.
- Check if your laptop recognizes pen input in the calibration menu.
Pair the Pen
- Power On the Pen: Press and hold the top button of the pen until the light starts blinking. This indicates it's in pairing mode.
- Bluetooth Pairing:
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices on your Pavilion.
- Toggle Bluetooth ON.
- Select Add device > Bluetooth.
- Look for your HP Tilt Pen in the list and click to connect.
If the pen doesn’t appear, proceed to step 5.
Update Drivers
Your Pavilion x360 might need updated drivers for proper pen functionality:
- Windows Update:
- Go to Settings > Windows Update and check for updates.
- HP Support Assistant:
- Open the HP Support Assistant app and install any available updates for your laptop.
- Manual Driver Update:
- Visit the HP support website and download the latest graphics driver, touchscreen driver, and any firmware updates.

Test the Pen Without Pairing
Many pens, including MPP 2.0 pens, don’t require Bluetooth pairing to work for basic tasks like writing or drawing. After charging:
- Open an app like Microsoft Whiteboard, OneNote, or Paint and try using the pen directly on the screen.
Reset and Re-pair
If the pen still doesn't connect:
- Remove the pen from the Bluetooth devices list if it shows up.
- Restart your Pavilion x360.
- Repeat the pairing process.
Test the Pen on Another Device
To rule out a hardware issue with the pen, try using it with another compatible MPP device, if available.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
