Upgrade to a Dual Band Wi Fi Adapter

HP Recommended
Pavilian 23 b229c
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a Pavilian 23 b229c all in one with a single band wifi adapter (Integrated Bluetooth 4.0 and wireless Lan 802.11b/g/n featuring single-band (2.4Ghz) 1x1 technology and a 1x1 antenna. Is it possible to upgrade this board to a dual band wifi card?  Would a USB dual band wifi adapter work? which is better?

Hi @Hughie1,

Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case relating to the upgrade of the wireless card to dual-band 5Ghz. I will be delighted to assist you here.

Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this.

It looks like only this card has been tested with the computer and dual band wireless cards have not been tested by HP. There is no white list as of now for this specific computer.

  • You could consult a local Best Buy or Staples technician or any local tech to check if the dual band wireless card is supported by the computer. It should be supported although it has not been tested by HP.
  • The best option at your disposal is to go for a USB dual band wireless adapter and that is economical and cost effective. It does the trick for you and can be purchased online or locally for a song.
  • Please check this link: http://hp.care/2vbqL8n  which has been marked as an accepted solution by another customer.
  • It has another link which gives you information on how dual-band cards work and how to identify them which has been authored by a reputed forum expert and has also been accepted as a solution.
  • I have been honest about it by keeping your best interest in mind.

Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂 Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you. 🙂

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.

If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles. 🙂

Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. 🙂

Thank you... I took your advice and upgraded to a USB Dual Band Wi-Fi adapter (Asus USB-AC56 Dual Band Wireless AC-1200 USB 3.0 Wi-Fi Adapter) It did improve my internet speed. Not as much as I had hoped. I think I have other issues with my HP All In One.....
