Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have an HP ENVY Phoenix 850-050 qe with the Broadcom BCM43142 802.11 bgn Wi-Fi Adapter for a wireless card. This card is only able to support 2.4ghz wifi where I would like to be able to use 5ghz wifi. Is there a way to upgrade the wireless card to be able to use 5ghz? When I look at the motherboard it says it's an hp 2B36 version 2.0 if that helps.  All of my usb slots are occupied, so using a USB wifi adapter is not an option. If it is able to be upgraded, is there a certain type of card it needs?

Thanks

Hi:

You will only be able to do a direct swap to a dual band card if there are two antenna cables connected to the Broadcom card in there now.

So, open up the PC and check to make sure before upgrading to this card...otherwise it won't work properly with only one antenna cable connected to it.

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11 ac 2x2 WiFi + BT 4.0    HP Part # 710661-001

You can find the card on eBay.

Search by the HP part number, not the model of the wifi card.

Below is the link to the service guide for your PC.  There won't be any procedure for how to remove and replace the wifi card but it will help you open it up.

The Broadcom card will be lying flat on the motherboard in a Mini-PCIe slot, and there will be one or two thin antenna cables connected to it.  Hopefully, there are two antenna cables.  The wifi card looks like this...
