I currently operate a Broadcom 802.11n network adapter that is only 2.4Ghz compatible. What wifi card can I upgrade to in my Pavilion 550-a114 that would also allow 5Ghz signals?

Hi:

If you want to replace the internal Broadcom card, you will need to know if there are two wifi antenna cables connected to it.

So, open up the PC and check.

According to the parts list for your PC, this is what the Broadcom card looks like...it is a HMC form factor.

If it looks different, let me know, because you would need to use a different type card (M.2)  My reply continues below this picture....

If there is only one antenna wire, your best option would be to purchase a USB dual band wifi AC adapter and use the BCM wifi card for Bluetooth only.

If there are two wifi antenna cables connected to the BCM card, you can upgrade to the Broadcom AC card with Bluetooth.

Broadcom BCM4352 802.11ac 2x2 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0 combo   HP part # 724935-001.

Search by the HP part number, not the model of the wifi card.

You should be able to find them for sale on eBay.

Below is the link to the service manual for your PC.  There will be no procedure to remove and replace the wifi card, but you can use the manual to help you open up the PC.
