Victus by HP 15L Gaming Desktop PC TG02-1000i RCTO Base Model
Microsoft Windows 11

When I try Wake On Lan  from my HP laptop, my HP Desktop does not wake properly. This is with Windows Home 11, The computer wakes but the monitor does not. Then the PC goes back to sleep about three minutes later. Our old PC’s worked without any issues.

I have all the correct setting in the net configuration, I have done this many times so I do have an idea of what to do.

The second HP desktop we have does the same exact thing.

Hi @JamesE1952,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're having trouble waking up your HP PC over LAN. To assist you better, could you please clarify whether you're using an HP Laptop or a Desktop? You've mentioned both, so I just want to be sure. If it's a Desktop, kindly share the model number or full product details so I can provide more accurate support.

Keep me posted

I have two PC's up stairs. One Victus by HP 15L Gaming Desktop PC TG02-1000 and the second one is an HP Pavilion Desktop PC TP01-3000i. Both just under a year old. Windows 11 home.

Down stairs is the HP workstation running Windows 11 pro. So it is the same problem no matter what unit I am using two wake the other on up.

What I can't figure out is it a Windows problem or the PC's.

Wake on LAN is set to on in BIOS All the windows setting are correct, the wake on LAN, magic packets and all that. Our old HP PC's were running windows 10 Home and same setting on them worked great.

I have looked into the Verizon router setting and there is nothing to change there.

When I try to wake one pc from the other it does seem to take it out of sleep mode,. But the monitor does not wake and the pc goes back to sleep in approx. 3 minutes.

I am not new to this. I am usually the go to guy for family and friends when the have computer issues. plus about 7 years working in computer operations.

Thank you for your time,

Jim

Hi @JamesE1952,

Certainly! Here's a clear and HP-aligned troubleshooting guide for when Wake on LAN (WoL) is not working on your Victus by HP 15L Gaming Desktop PC TG02-1000i

1️. Check BIOS Settings

  1. Restart your computer.
  2. Immediately press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
  3. Press F10 to enter the BIOS Setup.
  4. Go to Advanced > Power Management Options.
  5. Locate and enable:
    • Wake on LAN from S4/S5
    • Deep Sleep Control (set to Disabled if present)
  6. Press F10 to Save & Exit.

2️. Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers

  1. Visit the HP Support Page.
  2. Search for your model: Victus by HP 15L TG02-1000i.
  3. Download and install the latest:
    • BIOS
    • Chipset Drivers
    • Network Driver (Intel or Realtek LAN)

3️. Configure Network Adapter in Windows

  1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Network adapters, then:
    • Right-click on your Ethernet/LAN adapter and choose Properties.
    • Under Power Management:
      • ✔️ Check "Allow this device to wake the computer"
      • ✔️ Check "Only allow a magic packet to wake the computer"
    • Under the Advanced tab:
      • Set Wake on Magic Packet to Enabled
      • Set Shutdown Wake-On-Lan to Enabled

4. Verify System Supports Wake Events

Open Command Prompt (Admin) and run: powercfg -devicequery wake_from_any

Ensure your network adapter is listed. If not, it may not support waking the device or is not be configured properly.

5. Ensure PC is Connected via Ethernet

⚠️ Wake-on-LAN does not work over Wi-Fi on most systems. Make sure your computer is using a wired Ethernet connection to the router.

6. Confirm WoL Settings in Windows Power Options

  1. Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
  2. Click on Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
  3. Expand Sleep and ensure:
    • Allow wake timers is set to Enable
  4. Expand PCI Express > Link State Power Management and set it to Off

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
