Hi @madcows,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
It sounds like a power management issue with your Wi-Fi adapter. Here are steps to adjust the power settings to prevent the Wi-Fi adapter from turning off when the laptop is idle:
Disable Power Saving Mode for the Wi-Fi Adapter:
- Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Network adapters section.
- Right-click your Wi-Fi adapter and select Properties.
- Go to the Power Management tab.
- Uncheck the box that says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."
- Click OK to save the changes.
Adjust Power Plan Settings:
- Press Windows + X and select Power Options.
- Click on Change plan settings next to your selected power plan.
- Click on Change advanced power settings.
- Expand the Wireless Adapter Settings and then Power Saving Mode.
- Set it to Maximum Performance for both On battery and Plugged in.
- Click Apply and then OK.
Update Wi-Fi Adapter Drivers:
- Go to the HP Support website and search for your laptop model (HP 15-Fd0000).
- Download and install the latest drivers for your Wi-Fi adapter.
Disable Selective Suspend:
- Press Windows + X and select Power Options.
- Click on Change plan settings next to your selected power plan.
- Click on Change advanced power settings.
- Expand the USB settings section and then USB selective suspend setting.
- Set it to Disabled for both On battery and Plugged in.
- Click Apply and then OK.
Check for Windows Updates:
- Ensure that your Windows is up to date by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and clicking on Check for updates.
Reset Network Settings:
- Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status.
- Scroll down and click on Network reset.
- Follow the prompts to reset your network settings.
These steps should help prevent the Wi-Fi adapter from turning off when your laptop is idle. If the problem persists, there may be a deeper issue, and contacting HP Support for further assistance would be a good idea😊.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
