My Omnibook 5 is not connecting to the internet. I have tried all the recommendations that my computer gave me. The error that comes up is “can’t connect to the internet because your current IP address is for local network only.” Not sure how to get my computer to connect to my home wifi. Please help!

Hi @Alexis_P,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

The error you’re seeing, “current IP address is for local network only," means your Omnibook 5 is connecting to Wi‑Fi but not receiving a proper internet‑routable IP from the router. That’s why you’re stuck on local access. Let’s go through the fixes that usually clear this:

Forget the network and reconnect:

Go to Settings > Network & Internet > WiFi > Manage known networks

Click on the network name, then "Forget."

Try reconnecting from scratch

Reset network settings:

Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status

Click “Network reset” and follow the prompts

Release and renew IP address

Open Command Prompt (Admin).

Run:

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

This forces Windows to request a new IP from your router.

Update network drivers:

Open Device Manager (right-click Start button > Device Manager)

Expand “Network adapters."

Right-click your WiFi adapter and select “Update driver”

Choose “Search automatically for updated driver software."

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀

Best regards,
