Hi, Randy:

Sorry the driver didn't update didn't last.

Unfortunately, I don't have any other suggestions for you to try.

I don't know how you feel about replacing/upgrading the Realtek card with a better one, but if you want do do that, either of these cards should work and be more reliable:

AX210:

Intel AX210 Wi-Fi 6E 2x2 AX + Bluetooth 5.2 M.2 2230 non-vPro   HP part # / SPS # M27269-005

AX200:

Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 ax 2×2 + Bluetooth 5.0 MU-MIMO M.2 2230 non-vPro   HP part # L35282-005.

Just note that the antenna wires are very thin and delicate, so you would have to use extreme care when removing and reattaching them.

Here is a service teardown video that may be of help.

You can also use a dual band USB Wi-Fi 6 adapter.

I use a USB wifi 6 adapter on one of my HP PC's that did not come with a Wi-Fi adapter.

Hey Paul...

Thanks again for your immediate response.  How do we know if the card is the issue?  I'd hate to tear everything down, replace the module, and then the same thing happens.

Having said that, I don't mind replacing the module, but I want to make it as easy as possible.  If I switch the module, is it possible there will have to be a 2nd antenna added?  I don't know if mine has 1 or 2 (at the moment).  Will I have to re-install any drivers or software, or should it automatically connect and download any drivers once I start the computer?

I did notice that my Realtek module is called "Realtek RTL 8822BE 802.11ac PCle   Adapter #2", why is it #2?  Has it done something funky to #1?

I'm just seeing if there is something else which may have cause this error.  As I mentioned, I'm VERY surprised this would be damaged.  This computer is under my office desk and never gets touched, bumped or anything else for that matter... Always turned off on weekends, so not abused at all.  I've had computers the decades which just always work, I'm sure the wireless adapter cards still work on them.  How does HP have a card which dies like this so soon?  This is what makes me think it might be something else.... maybe an IP conflict?

Sincerely,

Randy

Hi, Randy:

Your PC's Wi-Fi card has two antenna wires.

Those are very unreliable and problematic cards and all you can really do is update the drivers and hope they work, or try other driver versions.

You can wade through the dozens  and dozens of posts regarding the Realtek cards and their connection issues.

As far as naming the device, it was probably uninstalled and reinstalled in the past, or you connected to a different network at one time.

There is probably a way to rename it to just the plain Wi-Fi adapter model but I don't know how to do that.

If you decide to replace the card, uninstall both the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth adapters in the device manager and check the uninstall driver box for the Realtek card before installing the Intel card.

Windows has the drivers built in for both cards but you can also download the latest Wi-Fi and Bluetooth drivers for the Intel card from the Intel site at the link below:
