Wifi has not been working for weeks. Could only access Internet by connecting to my phone network then this stopped connecting. Have tried every single option available.
I now have no wifi symbol even showing, no Internet or wifi connection settings at all and no adapter.
How can I get my wifi back ASAP

@123323245543, Welcome to the HP Support Community – it’s great to have you here!
I appreciate you taking the time to share your question. I'm more than happy to assist with this and provide a solution that works for you.
I understand how frustrating it can be when Wi-Fi suddenly stops working. Let's walk through a few steps to help restore your wireless connectivity.
Check Device Manager for Wi-Fi Adapter
- Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Network Adapters.
- Look for any wireless adapter (e.g., Realtek, Intel Wireless, Broadcom, etc.).
- If it's missing or listed under Other Devices with a yellow exclamation mark, the driver may be corrupted or missing.
Show Hidden Devices
- In Device Manager, click View > Show hidden devices.
- See if the Wi-Fi adapter appears. If it does, right-click and choose Enable.
Reinstall Wireless Driver
- Visit the official HP support page: Official HP® Support
- Enter your HP Desktop model number.
- Download and install the latest Wireless LAN driver for your operating system.
Use HP Support Assistant
- If installed, open HP Support Assistant from the Start menu.
- Go to Updates and install any pending network-related updates.
- If not installed, download it here: HP Support Assistant | HP® Support
Check BIOS Settings
- Restart your PC and press Esc or F10 to enter BIOS.
- Ensure Wireless LAN is enabled in BIOS settings.
- Save and exit.
Run Network Troubleshooter
- Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status.
- Click Network Troubleshooter and follow the prompts.
Reset Network Settings
- Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status.
- Scroll down and click Network Reset.
- This will reinstall all network adapters and reset settings to default.
Check for Windows Updates
- Go to Settings > Windows Update.
- Install all available updates, especially optional driver updates.
I hope your issue is now resolved. If not, feel free to reply and we’ll continue helping until everything’s sorted!

Unfortunately none of this has worked.
When showing hidden devices on device manager, the wifi adapter shows but there is no option to enable it, only to uninstall or update. I have tried to update and it says it is already updated.
I have tried the esc and f10 option bu

@123323245543, Thanks for the update. Since the Wi-Fi adapter is only visible under hidden devices and cannot be enabled, this strongly suggests a hardware-level issue or a driver/firmware conflict. Let's go deeper with advanced steps to isolate and resolve the problem.
Check for Power Management Conflicts
Sometimes Windows disables the adapter to save power.
- Open Device Manager.
- Right-click the hidden Wi-Fi adapter > Properties.
- Go to the Power Management tab.
- Uncheck: "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."
- Click OK, then restart the PC.
Uninstall Completely and Reinstall Driver
- In Device Manager, right-click the Wi-Fi adapter > Uninstall device.
- Check "Delete the driver software for this device" if available.
- Restart your PC.
- Then:
- Go to HP Drivers & Software.
- Enter your desktop model and download the latest Wi-Fi driver.
- Install it manually.
Use HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI
This will help confirm if the Wi-Fi hardware is physically working.
- Turn off the PC.
- Turn it back on and immediately press Esc repeatedly, then F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
- Select Component Tests > Network > Wireless Module Test.
- Run the test and note the result.
If the test fails, the Wi-Fi card may be faulty and needs replacement.
Perform a System Restore (if recent)
If Wi-Fi was working a few weeks ago:
- Press Windows + R, type rstrui, and press Enter.
- Choose a restore point before the issue started.
- Follow the prompts to restore.
BIOS Update (if not already done)
A corrupted or outdated BIOS can cause hardware detection issues.
- Go to HP Software and Driver Downloads.
- Enter your model and download the latest BIOS update.
- Follow the instructions carefully to update.
Boot from Live Linux USB (Optional but Powerful Test)
To rule out Windows entirely:
- Create a bootable USB with Ubuntu.
- Boot from it (without installing).
- Check if Wi-Fi works in Ubuntu.
- If it does, the issue is software/driver-related.
- If it does not, the Wi-Fi hardware is likely faulty.
I hope this helps!
If my response resolves your issue, please click “Accepted Solution” to help others find the answer. Also, don’t forget to click the “Yes” button to say thanks!
Take care and have a great day.
