Hi @drjury,

Thank you for your response,

It sounds like unplugging and restarting your HP ENVY Desktop PC improved your WiFi reception and speed. This can happen because restarting the computer can reset network settings and clear temporary issues that might have been affecting your WiFi connection.

If your WiFi continues to work fine after the restart and speed test, it's a good sign that the problem might have been related to the computer's network settings or connectivity state. If the issue reoccurs frequently, you might want to consider updating your WiFi drivers or checking for any software updates that could address networking issues. Additionally, ensuring your router and modem firmware is up to date can also help maintain stable WiFi performance.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @drjury,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP ENVY Desktop PC is experiencing intermittent Wi-Fi issues that improve after unplugging and then restoring power, this might be due to several possible causes. Here are some steps to diagnose and potentially fix the issue.

Steps to Diagnose and Fix Wi-Fi Reception Issues

Restart Your Router: Sometimes the router may be causing the issue. Unplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it back in.

Update Network Drivers:

  • Go to Device Manager.
  • Expand Network adapters.
  • Right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter and select Update driver.
  • Choose to search automatically for updated driver software.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  • Check for updates and install any that are available.

Reset Network Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status.
  • Click on Network reset and follow the instructions.

Power Management Settings:

  • Go to Device Manager.
  • Expand Network adapters.
  • Right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter and select Properties.
  • Go to the Power Management tab.
  • Uncheck the option that allows the computer to turn off the device to save power.

Check Wi-Fi Signal Strength:

  • Ensure that the desktop is not too far from the router.
  • Minimize obstructions and interference (e.g., thick walls, other electronic devices).

Update BIOS:

  • Go to the HP support website and check if there is a BIOS update available for your desktop model.
  • Follow the instructions to update the BIOS.

Use a Wi-Fi Extender: If your desktop is far from the router, consider using a Wi-Fi extender to boost the signal.

Change Wi-Fi Channel:

  • Log in to your router’s settings (usually by entering the IP address in a web browser).
  • Change the Wi-Fi channel to one that is less congested.

Reinstall Wi-Fi Adapter:

  • Go to Device Manager.
  • Right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter and select Uninstall device.
  • Restart your computer, and Windows will reinstall the driver.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify and potentially resolve the Wi-Fi reception issues on your HP ENVY Desktop PC.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you, Alden4.

OK, here it is. First thing this AM, WIFI can't find **bleep** or any interenet shortcut. Disconnected / connected power and started computer. Tested Speed Test and got 356 mbps just as it should be. Did nothing to modem or router. Same as nearby cell.

What do you think ?

Thank  you for the prompt response and the ideas for solving this problem. One more quirk: the compuiter is never shut down, yet the next morning (for the last few days anyway), WiFi must be restarted this in this manner.

Also, how and where do I find network reset and networking software I opened the drivers as you suggested the other day and it said the latest drivers were installed.

Thanks again.

Hi @drjury,

Thank you for your response,

Restarting WiFi Daily Issue:

If your computer is not shut down but you need to restart WiFi every morning, it could be due to several reasons such as power-saving settings, driver issues, or interference. Here's what you can try.

Check Power Settings:

  • Ensure that your computer's power settings are not set to turn off the WiFi adapter to save power. You can adjust this setting in Device Manager under the WiFi adapter's properties.

Update WiFi Driver:

  • Even if it says the latest drivers are installed, sometimes reinstalling the WiFi driver can resolve connectivity issues. Here’s how to do it:
    • Go to Device Manager (you can search for it in the Start menu).
    • Find your WiFi adapter under "Network adapters," right-click it, and select "Uninstall device."
    • After uninstalling, restart your computer. Windows will automatically reinstall the driver.

Check for Interference:

  • Nearby electronic devices or even physical obstructions can sometimes interfere with WiFi signals. Ensure your computer is placed away from such sources of interference.

Finding Network Reset and Networking Software:

Network Reset:

  • In Windows 11, you can reset the network settings to default, which can often resolve connectivity issues. Here's how:
    • Go to Settings > Network & Internet.
    • Scroll down and find "Advanced network settings."
    • At the bottom, click on "Network reset."
    • Follow the prompts to reset your network settings.

Networking Software:

  • Windows usually manages networking through its built-in settings and drivers. If you're looking for specific networking software, you typically wouldn't need additional software unless for specific advanced configurations.
  • Check the manufacturer's website for your WiFi adapter or your computer model for any specific networking tools they provide.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the WiFi connectivity issue on your computer effectively.

Take care and have a great day ahead!
