If your HP computer is not responding to the keyboard, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.
Check Physical Connections
- For wired keyboards: Ensure the USB connector is firmly plugged into the computer. Try different USB ports.
- For wireless keyboards: Ensure the keyboard is powered on and the batteries are not dead. Reconnect the keyboard using its receiver or Bluetooth settings.
Test the Keyboard on Another Device
- Plug the keyboard into another computer or device to verify if the keyboard itself is functional.
Restart Your Computer
- A simple restart can often resolve temporary issues with drivers or connections.
Use an On-Screen Keyboard
- Use the on-screen keyboard as a temporary solution:
- Windows: Press Ctrl + Windows Key + O to bring up the on-screen keyboard.
- Mac: Go to System Preferences > Accessibility > Keyboard > Enable Accessibility Keyboard.

BIOS/UEFI Settings
- Test if the keyboard works outside the operating system:
- Restart the computer and repeatedly press the F2, F10, or Esc key (depending on your model) to enter the BIOS/UEFI.
- If the keyboard works in BIOS, the issue is likely with the operating system or drivers.
Reset the Keyboard Settings
- Windows:
- Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language > Keyboard Settings.
- Ensure the correct keyboard layout is selected.
- Mac:
- Go to System Preferences > Keyboard.
- Verify settings under Input Sources.
Test Another Keyboard
- If possible, connect another keyboard to see if the problem persists. This will help identify if the issue is hardware-related.
Hardware Check
- If the keyboard still does not work:
- For laptops, check if a specific key or the entire keyboard is affected.
- External keyboards can sometimes fail due to hardware damage.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
