I've read through all the online ideas to get my keyboard to work however I still cannot get the @ key to work (I had to copy paste to write this). My keyboard has a standard set up, the @ is on the number 2. When I use shift + 2 this comes up " when I use ctrl + shift + 2 nothing happens. How do I make the @ work? Note that I'm not that tech savy so make this answer simple, please and thank you.

@Robyn77 -- Windows has support for non-English keyboards (French, German, Nordic, et cetera), where the keycaps on some keys are different.  For example, the Nordic keyboard has labelled keys for: ä å Å æ Æ ø Ø

Search on your computer for settings for "keyboards" or "input methods", to specify to Windows that your physical keyboard is the "English-US" keyboard: 1/! + 2/@ + 3/# + 4/$ and so on.
